We’re Here For Beer, and here’s why

Beer has been part of our culture since before Canada became a country. We share it at family gatherings, backyard barbecues, hockey games, on camping trips, at the lake. Beer brings Canadians together. And that’s what Here For Beer is all about.

Almost half of Canada’s population drinks beer. We love it. We’re great at brewing it. It’s been part of our country since the late-1600s, and since then, Canada’s reputation for brewing and beer drinking has grown like hops.

Many communities across the country have a brewery that serves as a community hub, a gathering place, and a contributor to our local economies.

The beer economy employs nearly 150,000 Canadians and contributes $13.6 billion annually to Canada’s GDP. Eighty-four per cent of beer consumed in Canada is made here, and in 2018, 18.56 million hectolitres of domestic beer was sold. Canada is home to almost 1,000 breweries and 7,000 domestically made brands. Our brewers, barley farmers, bartenders and restaurateurs work every day to produce and pour quality beer that’s put Canada on the global beer map.

As Canadians, we’ve got a lot to be proud of.

What we haven’t had is a place where Canadian beer lovers can connect with others, share the passion, learn about Canada’s beer history and present, and have a voice on issues that matter to anyone who touches beer – from the people who brew it, serve it, drink it, or provide the ingredients, products and services that help make sure we’re drinking the highest quality beer.

That’s why we started Here For Beer. It’s a community dedicated to the Canadian beer lover. It’s all about having fun, supporting our breweries – big and small – and promoting Canada’s world-class beer scene.

No matter what beer you drink or what it means to you, as Canadians who love beer, we can all agree that it plays an important role in our history, our culture, our communities.

We’re Here For Beer. Are you?
